While we’re practicing social distancing, we can still have a great Memorial Day with some of these ideas for celebrating at home. We have collected a list of ideas for recognizing our military and enjoying time with our families.
Fly the Flag
The first idea is easy, let’s fly our flags tomorrow. Seeing a neighborhood with flags fluttering outside is a great tribute to our soldiers.
Share Your Memories and Appreciation
The Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration has enhanced capabilities on the Veterans Legacy Memorial website. Family, Friends, and visitors can add an entry on a veteran’s page, reply to someone else’s tribute, or add a memory or photo to a veteran’s page.
Social Media Tribute
Create a tribute to your military hero on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
Chalk Art
Break out the chalk to add a Memorial Day message on your driveway to sidewalk. Check out Pinterest for some great art ideas.
National Memorial Day Concert
You can watch the National Memorial Day concert on PBS. The concert will be broadcast tonight at 7:00pm. Because of the virus, the traditional live concert on the West Lawn of the U.S.Capitol will not be held and the broadcast will feature new music and stories about veterans as well as music and segments from past concerts.
Write Letters to Soldiers
Military personnel currently serving will also appreciate your thoughts on Memorial Day. Children can write letters of thanks for their service, send a handmade craft or ship supplies or comfort items through an organization like Operation Gratitude.
