If you have been putting off your annual mammogram, here’s a friendly reminder to make your appointment. While Covid has been dominating our attention, October Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a great time to get your mammogram.

By the Numbers

This year more than 268,600 women and 2,600 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer (cancer that has spread from where it started in the breast into the surrounding healthy tissue), and more than 42,260 will die from the disease.

If diagnosed early and treated before it spreads, the 5-year survival rate for breast cancer is 99%.

Prevent Cancer Survey

In August 2021 the Prevent Cancer Foundation released a survey of 2,003 women between the ages of 21 and 60 years old throughout the U.S.

When the local pandemic restrictions were lifted, 90% of the women say they engaged in normal activities – visiting family and friends, dining out and shopping – only 48% of these women visited their doctor’s office according to the survey.
