The Holidays this year are feeling very different. In an effort to provide a few things that feel very normal we have hit on the idea of driving around neighborhoods safely looking at Holiday Lights from the car.
Located off Westheimer near San Felipe and Chimney Rock, Briargrove is overflowing with lights at Christmas time. When it comes to holidays, Briargrove is a family-centered neighborhood that goes all out.
In the Pinehurst Subdivision the residents turn Evening Shades Court into Candy Cane Court. Friendly neighbors pass out candy canes to visitors. While you are in the area, check out the Walden, Eagle Springs, and Summerwood neighborhoods.
This neighborhood, located on the east side of Pearland off 518 and Country Club, has a long history of going all out for Christmas. The friendly competition includes several categories, tons of beautifully decorated homes, and music.
Bordered by I-10, Heights Boulevard, 19th Street, and 1-45 the homes in the Heights/Woodland Heights are decorated and ready for drive-by viewing. The traditional Lights in the Heights has been reimagined as the Spirit of Lights in the Heights this year to provide social distancing and safety requirements. Be sure to drive down Bayland, Highland, and Woodland streets.
This Fort Bend neighborhood is located off 99 between Westpark Tollway and Highway 6. Start by driving down Plantation Drive. Some of the other streets to check out for award-winning lights are Morton League, Austin Colony, and Quarterpath.
These shopping centers have some beautiful lighting displays and are a quick 10-minute add-on to the River Oaks neighborhood lights.
From Loop 610, take San Felipe west into Post Oak, then turn left onto Post Oak and drive south toward the Galleria, where you can catch spectacular white lights on the Christmas trees lining Uptown's main holiday thoroughfare. Take a left on Westheimer and cross under the Loop to head towards Highland Village, where you will see palm trees with white lights lining the road. Take a left onto Kirby to make your way into the heart of River Oaks described above.
For more than 40 years, this neighborhood has been one of the places to view lights in Houston. Hundreds of homes participate and compete for prizes for best house, best block, and even best lamppost.
Located just off Highway 249 north of Willowbrook Mall and northeast of Tomball Parkway. Click here for a map.
This is one of Houston’s oldest and most upscale neighborhoods. These magnificent homes are an attraction on a regular day and are truly spectacular decked out with Christmas lights. The majestic oak trees drip with long strands of white lights. Be sure to see the stunning view at the corner of Inwood Drive and River Oaks Boulevard. Driving by the River Oaks Country Club at the north end of the boulevard is also a must.
Enter River Oaks from Kirby at Shepherd or Westheimer and being winding your way through the neighborhood. Pack your patience, too. It is the Holiday season.
Start north of West 43rd Street on either side of Ella Boulevard to see window dioramas, inflatable Santas, arches over the streets, and college mascots all competing for awards for Most Original, Best Overall, Most Creative, and more.
