July is Cell Phone Courtesy Month

Written by Communications Team | Sun, Jun 27, 2021

Seems like so many social rules have been tossed out during this unique time of a pandemic. Since July is Cell Phone Courtesy Month, we’re taking the opportunity to show you some thoughtful ways to preserve a bit of etiquette in your conversations.

Let’s stay safe

Refrain from talking or texting while driving. It’s distracting and dangerous to you and those around you.

Show a little respect

Silence your phone when you are in person with someone including work, meals, and meetings.

During performances of any kind (yes, movies too) the best choice is to turn your phone off.

How about demonstrating that the person you are with that they are important to you by keeping your phone deep in your pocket or purse?

If you must take a call, apologize and step away for that conversation.

When not to take that call

Our friends at Verizon offered these suggestions on when you truly need to leave your phone alone.

  • During a job interview
  • Funerals
  • Attending church
  • While giving birth
  • When someone is talking to you
  • While driving
  • Eating a meal
  • At movie theaters and other large gatherings of any kind
  • While you’re studying

Exceptions

Of course, there are also some exceptions to these etiquette rules.

  • Medical professionals
  • Parents with children in the care of babysitters
  • People who are “on call” with an employerDean and Draper
