Last week our blog was about staying safe during Halloween. This week we’re talking about having fun! The options for creating a fun and safe Halloween are overwhelming. We have chosen a selection to give you some inspiration for your Halloween festivities.
Create a Halloween Candy Hunt. Hide candy around the house, turn down the lights, and equip your hunters with a flashlight. Or take the hunt outside hiding wrapped candy in the bushes, tucked in potted plants, and around outdoor furniture. You’ll need flashlights here, too.
Scavenger Candy Hunt. Hide the candy or prizes and create a list of clues to direct your hunters.
Painting Rocks. How about creating you own spooky decorations with some rocks and paint? See our picture above for some ideas. Education.com reminded us to let the base coat dry before adding the faces. Potentially the base coat could be done ahead of time.
Pumpkin Carving. It wouldn’t be Halloween without a pumpkin or two around. If you are challenged by the carving aspect of this project, how about getting out the markers, googly eyes, fake mustaches, or other objects to glue on your pumpkin?
Mask Decorating. First, if your costume came with a mask, save it for later. Hopkins Medicine recommends that the costume’s mask may not prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Of course, that Hopkins Medicine approved mask can be decorated for the occasion. Make sure that any paint is non-toxic and not to puncture the mask when you add decorations. Lightweight paper cutouts of scary Halloween bats, ghosts, and spiders could do the trick.
Virtual has become our middle names over the past six months. Why not add Halloween to the list of occasions to get a fun group of people together virtually?
Creating a Theme. Our friends at Education.com have a great idea about getting a group together to write a scary story. This project certainly gets everyone talking and contributing to the terrifying plot. For more information on creating a scary story from Education.com, click here.
Scary Movie Night. Watching a movie virtually together, chatting through the scary parts, and dressed as the characters all online can be a fun, interesting evening.
Pumpkin Carving Contest. You spent a long time getting that pumpkin carved, why not have a virtual contest for the Best Pumpkin? You can even add categories like Scariest, Most Attractive, Best Carved – you get the idea.
