NATIONAL PARENTS’ DAY, July 22
National Parents’ Day honors all parents on the fourth Sunday in July. Parents play a vital role in the lives of children. Parents are our protectors, teachers, providers and role models. On National Parents’ Day, we honor all parents do every day to raise up their children in a world that is constantly changing and challenging.
National Parents’ Day was established in 1994 when President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional Resolution into Law (36 U.S.C. § 135) for “recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children.” The bill was introduced by Republican Senator Trent Lott.
NATIONAL VANILLA ICE CREAM DAY, July 23
National Vanilla Ice Cream Day is observed annually on July 23rd. Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd President, had a fondness for vanilla ice cream. According to Monticello.org, visitors reported being served the ice cream several times during his Presidency. Jefferson produced a handwritten copy of a vanilla ice cream recipe in the 1780s. The Library of Congress houses the original Jefferson recipe.
NATIONAL AMELIA EARHART DAY, July 24
Each year on July 24, it is National Amelia Earhart Day. Author and American aviation pioneer, Amelia Mary Earhart was born on July 24, 1897. Earhart flew solo across the Atlantic Ocean on May 20, 1932. As a result, she became the first woman pilot (aviatrix) to complete the journey. Setting this record earned Earhart the United States Distinguished Flying Cross. Her accomplishments would inspire women around the globe to the world of aviation.
Amelia Earhart disappeared in July of 1937, over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island, during an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in a Purdue-funded Lockheed Model 10 Electra.
NATIONAL HIRE A VETERAN DAY, July 25
Every day, hundreds of our military personnel leave the service in search of civilian employment. On July 25, employers across the country are reminded to consider these servicemen and women as highly trained, qualified individuals to fill open positions in their ranks during National Hire a Veteran Day.

NATIONAL INTERN DAY, July 26
National Intern Day on the fourth Thursday in July recognizes all the college graduates testing the professional waters across the country. After all, interns provide a fresh perspective in the areas of business, engineering, science, research and so much more. National Intern Day encourages companies to recognize hardworking interns.

NATIONAL SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR APPRECIATION DAY, July 27
Celebrate National System Administrator Appreciation Day on Friday, July 27. Created to show appreciation for the work of sysadmins, this day is also known as Sysadmin Day, SysAdminDay, SAD or SAAD.
National System Administrator Appreciation Day was created by Ted Kekatos. He was inspired by a Hewlett-Packard magazine advertisement in which a system administrator was given flowers and fruit baskets by grateful co-workers as a ‘thank-you’ for installing new printers. The first System Administrator Appreciation Day was celebrated on July 28, 2000.
NATIONAL DAY OF THE COWBOY, July 28
National Day of the Cowboy is observed annually on the fourth Saturday in July.
The era of the cowboy began after the Civil War in the heart of Texas. Cattle were herded long before this time, but in Texas, they grew wild and unchecked. With nearly 5 million head of cattle, cowboys moved the herds on long drives.
According to the National Day of the Cowboy Organization, this day “…is a day set aside to celebrate the contributions of the Cowboy and Cowgirl to America’s culture and heritage.” The NDOC continuously pursues national recognition of National Day of the Cowboy. Currently, 11 states recognize this day. The first celebration was in 2005.
